How It’s Made
What would curiosities be if they weren’t handmade? All of our items are carefully made and treated with lots of love. We want you to have the very best quality and hold ourselves to a certain standard. Our products are developed from lots of research, developing and testing.
To see our process in action, watch this quick timelapse below of Jen assembling a birthday card, packaging it up, and adding a handwritten note.
First off, what is “it”?
But how do you make it?
I used to make gifts the art-school-way, which was paper, a ruler, an exacto blade, and pulling an all-nighter. That was cool in my 20’s, but I’m pushing 40 and I can’t stay up all night anymore.
Enter…the Cricut machine! This wonderful piece of machinery is essentially a plotter — an exacto blade attached to a computer, so you can cut out (almost) any shape in a matter of minutes. Typically, I will design a product and perfect it using my Cricut. This process also allows me to make personalized, one-off products.
For products that do not require personalization, I create a diecast and have them produced at my local print shop. Our hidden message cards, volvelles and some stickers are created using this method. The machines and technology used to produce these products are commercial-grade, but I still assemble them by hand in my favorite office sweater.
I’m already planning my next technology upgrade…a laser printer for more accurate and detailed diecutting. You can cut anything!
